Deep black, matte-finished hand made brooch.  Center features a high-relief carving of a floral motif, enclosed within a scalloped border.  In Victorian sentimental jewelry, these motifs symbolized fidelity, remembrance, and deep affection for the deceased.  Popular in the UK largely due to Queen Victoria's influence during her public mourning period following the death of her husband.  Approx. 2"L x 1.75" W.
